GEASTRUM HYGROMETRICUS (ASTRAEUS HYGROMETRICUS) , originally uploaded by Ioanna_Art.

Description : 6 – 10 cm wide, having 6 – 10 or more arms, distending with humidity, closing inward when dry.

Edibility : Of no interest because of texture

Habitat : In clearings or open parts of woods

History : Believed to have been used by ancient Greeks as a short-term weather forecast tool.

Season : Summer and autumn.
